Comment About Comments
May. 3rd, 2023 02:39 pmIt's a bit challenging to say what my favorite comment I've ever received is, because after all these years I've gotten a lot of nice ones for things I wrote. But I thought I'd throw the question out here -- do you have a favorite comment?
It might not be about a fanwork, but maybe about another blog post you've made. Or it could be something rewarding or inspiring you received in response to something you said or did here on Dreamwidth.
What is it about the comment that sticks with you? Was it the timing? The content of it? Something it said to motivate or reward you? Or was it an opening to get to know someone new?
Also, my Crowdfunding section has a post on "How to Make Constructive Comments." Some of that is specific to crowdfunding, but some generalizes well to other contexts.
Yes ...

2) Your arguments are well thought out, usually match up to what I know from RL, and allow for varaition in experience and other factors. While I don't always agree with you 100%, this does make me more likely to trust your information in areas where I do not have experience.
3) You don't try to tell people what we should be interested in ("Why don't you read about something useful?" Blegh.). Plus, there aren't that many people that I know in RL who want to talk about things like zero grav battle tactics, how to find sustainable earth recipes, ethics in (whatever)...
4) Interesting people hang out in your digital space. This makes it easier to get a variety of solutions to a propbem, and get a sort of peer review."
"I was sitting here watching Bob Ross paint, and he said something that made me think of you. He was talking about teaching people to paint who never had before, and loving to see the sparkle in their eye when they saw they could do it. And immediately, I thought "Ysabet did that woth poetry!"
I just finished writing a trimeric, and gave a little happy "Ha!" because the form worked out, and it's my 15th poem/bingo fill since maybe Wednesday. Your recommendation for short fills, and your love and skill of poetry made this so much fun and so easy for me, and I've never been especially good with words.
So, I just wanted to say thank you, because I'm having a lot of fun and enjoying the creative process a lot, and I don't think I would have had this (certainly not in this way) without you."
">> "Warning: This poem contains graphic descriptions of delicious Syrian foods that you may or may not be able to obtain." <<
I put that over on a discord with some musical foodies, and said that takes the Taj al malek for content warnings... (and proceeded to describe the stuff)... and just from *that* had two people drooling (and one bewailing her new job b/c it took away the hardest ingredient to get for such fancy stuff: TIME...)"
"Three lines of code... but I bet they had | spacers...
and I'm damn sure God didn't comment them either.
Well, we can tell you didn't build this world of ours. You would've done a better job, one with less obvious bodges and patches in it.."
"you are singlehandedly god
