This blogging questionnaire celebrates Three Weeks for Dreamwidth (April 25-May 15). See the questionnaire introduction post.
What do you consider the traits of a successful blog? What are the traits of an unsuccessful blog?
A successful blog depends on what you're trying to accomplish, so there's a lot of variation. These are some common examples:
* It meets your goals, whatever those may be.
* You update it regularly. Once a week is a good minimum that will keep your blog in your readers' minds.
* The quality is adequate or better. At least, it's high enough to keep people coming back.
* The blog has an audience that interacts with the posts. It can be a large or small audience depending on what you want.
* It's generally a pleasant place to spend time.
Some things that can undermine success include:
* You can't seem to find or keep your focus.
* You forget to update it, and then people forget to read it.
* The quality is not high enough to hold people's attention. But that's okay. Write badly with pride! That's how you get better.
* The blog can't hold an audience, or people just lurk without interacting.
* People are mean to each other, making it an unpleasant place to spend time. Some venues are notorious for this problem. Dreamwidth provides excellent tools for privacy and moderation, so use them.
