Awards on Dreamwidth
Nov. 28th, 2022 06:08 pmOn Dreamwidth, awards are most popular in fandom, but appear in some other areas too. Many awards have their active season either in December or in January, although some do run at other times. So if you enjoy participating in or observing award activities, now is a good time to search for those.
Watch
fandomcalendar and
fandom_on_dw for announcements about fannish awards in general. See the Awards tag in
fandomcalendar. The Annual or other Frequency tags may also help you find awards based on their timing.
buffyversetop5 just completed its 2022 season in late October-early November, so you can see this year's winners on that community now. \o/
lost_fic_awards shows recent activity in a search but not in posts, so this community has likely restricted recent post visibility to its own members. Its profile cites a quarterly award cycle.
Outside fandom created from someone else's canon, one example is the Rose and Bay Awards which honor excellence in cyberfunded creativity. This project runs on
crowdfunding with its eligibility from January 1-December 31, 2022 and its award season in January-February 2023. Categories are Art, Fiction, Poetry, Webcomic, Other Project, and Patron. See the 2023 Landing Page for details and the volunteer signup page for folks who wish to manage a category. Winners for the 2022 season will be posted in the community in March 2023.
Awards of any kind make fun posts in a blog. You can tell your readers about the awards you are following, which helps boost attention and makes the awards more exciting. An award banner makes for a quick easy post, and many awards have banners or other artwork for promotional purposes.
Does anyone else have favorite awards on Dreamwidth? Do you run in any your blog or community? If so, please share links so more folks can follow them.
